NOTING with unreserved disappointment the appalling devaluation of our national foundation, values, human life through violence that has become the order of the day culminating in brutal wanton, maiming, abductions and beatings, the primitive and unjustifiable price Zimbabweans seemingly have to pay for their fundamental rights.

May Day has come at time when the worker in Zimbabwe is going through a torrid time due to the harsh and unbearable economic environment that has largely been brought to life by the poor economic policies of the government. The escalating inflation that certainly qualifies for distinct space in the Guinness Book of Records has subjected the Zimbabwean worker to a state of abject poverty. Most companies are finding it difficult to keep abreast with the inflation as employee salaries are being eroded by inflation almost on a daily basis. Most companies in Zimbabwe are working below 30% capacity and have had to offload most of their staff members.

The Chief Secretary to the Office of the President and Cabinet Dr Misheck Sibanda on Friday announced in the Government Gazette that Cde Mugabe had signed into law the Local Government Laws Amendment Act which sailed through Parliament this month. The amendments effectively remove the post of Executive Mayor to a ceremonial one.
